Why Drivers Pick a Used Tacoma
The Tacoma is a midsize pickup. It fits in a city parking spot and still hauls a weekend load. Many owners use it for work during the week and trails on the weekend. Owners tend to keep these trucks for years.
Which Tacoma Years Should You Look At?
Most used Tacomas come from two generations. The 2016 to 2023 trucks use a 3.5L V6 or a 2.7L four-cylinder engine. The 2024 and newer trucks use a turbo 2.4L four-cylinder engine. Some newer trims add the i-FORCE MAX hybrid system. Older 2005 to 2015 trucks use a 4.0L V6 or a 2.7L four-cylinder.
Pick the Right Trim
The SR and SR5 suit daily driving and work. The TRD Sport adds a sportier look and feel on the street. The TRD Off-Road and TRD Pro add gear for trails. The Limited adds leather and more comfort features. Newer trucks also come in TRD PreRunner and Trailhunter trims.
Used Tacoma Questions
Should I buy a certified or a standard used Tacoma?
Toyota Certified Used Vehicles come in two levels. A Gold Certified Tacoma passes a 160-point inspection. It comes with a 12-month or 12,000-mile comprehensive warranty and a 7-year or 100,000-mile powertrain warranty. A Silver Certified Tacoma passes a 136-point inspection and comes with a 12-month or 12,000-mile powertrain warranty. A standard used Tacoma often costs less up front.
